But I've been playing them more and more lately. Here's my generic strategy on how to use rogues effectively in melee:

* In character creation, pump dex until you start having to pay 3 points per unit increase. NWN2's default recommended stat distribution is actually pretty darn good.

* Use a suitable trainer (I am biased, but I like my frwcc) to level up your rogue and give them equipment that maximizes their AC as much as possible. Until you have over +4 dex bonus (dex 20), you should use chain shirts. Don't forget +AC rings, amulets, boots, etc.

* Get the weapon finesse feat asap so that you have decent native +attack.

* Maximize the AC of a tank companion. In my case, I had Borgen level as a fighter once he joined my party and gave him a tower shield + scimitar, as well as full plate-style armor. He was pushing 30 AC by the end of the module.

* Set your rogue to always be stealthy and control the tank whenever exploring. This will cause your rogue to always lag a bit behind the tank, which means the enemies will aggro on the tank, allowing your rogue to sneak up and aroudn them and start sneak attacking them from behind. This allows you to a) avoid being hit, and b) use the rogue's best offensive ability as much as possible.

* When possible, since you won't be using shields, start down the two-weapon fighting road. It provides more attacks, and gives you access to two-weapon defense, which can help compensate for not having a shield. I often multiclass with rangers or fighters to speed this along, though that can hurt skill point progression in important rogue feats (less so with the ranger).

Hope that helps! Like I said, I found the combat to be challenging, but overall well-balanced for my ranger. -BBerliadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14133790794703172710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111894865422044554.post-4986538220238233312007-07-01T06:24:00.000-04:002007-07-01T06:24:00.000-04:00Interesting. I like this module, but I'm finding it extremely difficult with a 4th level rogue.

On the other hand, I've found all the mods I've downloaded different grades of BLARG I IS DED hard. Perhaps I just suck. =PAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
